Confessions of a Control Freak describes in detail the plight of the obsessive person who tries to control her circumstances and run the lives of those around her. The book is the personal journey of a woman consumed with fears and misgivings to a place of peace and confidence in a God who controls the world.

Over a period of years, Priscilla Morrison has written her thoughts and experiences, and shared them with women in various settings: Bible studies, conferences, prison ministry, and one-on-one mentoring. Confessions is the result of her experiences, her study, and a survey she created to learn from others struggling with control.

The book is humbly and honestly written, with humorous anecdotes to lighten the introspective mood. Priscilla encourages her readers that there is hope for change, relationships can be salvaged and restored, and, as always, God will use our struggles for our good, not only for His glory.

From the Introduction—So what are we talking about here?

We all know what is meant by a “control freak.” She’s the one who hardly anyone can stand to work with because it’s her way or the highway. The mother whose children have to file their socks.  The father who gets obedience from his family but scares the liver out of them. The one who can’t relax because things around him aren’t perfect. Or the woman next to me on a plane recently who not only demonstrated how to put my tray down, but told me where to put my cup. These people can be the bane of our existence or, even worse, they can be us. (p. 5)

Since it is human to want to be in control of our lives, this book is relevant to any reader. We all struggle with those things that are totally beyond our control. We all know someone who likes to run our lives along with theirs. And many of us are burdened with personalities given to detail or managing.

Confessions of a Control Freak  breaks down the problem into manageable pieces:

PART I –  The introduction defines a control freak, helps the reader identify areas where they may need help, and offers hope for change and assurance that not all control is bad.

PART II – The author divides up the problem of misused and misplaced control into 10 areas (her Confessions) and fleshes them out with humor and openness, drawing from her own experiences and those of her friends and acquaintances.   In each confession she gives a type of grasping for control, explores it, and then offers help from various sources, especially the Savior and His word.

PART III – Summary insights and comments are given in the concluding chapters.

About the Author
Priscilla MorrisonPriscilla Morrison considers herself a recovering “control freak.” Her detail-oriented nature grew into an unhealthy obsession for control as she raised her family of six children. Active in her church, community, and the various activities associated with family life, she became frustrated and disillusioned by her lack of personal peace and a constant sense of inadequacy. She relates descriptions of the “mercy walls” God erected to help her draw upon His promises and wisdom, and tells her journey to a place of lasting joy and peace. As a Bible teacher, conference speaker and writer, Priscilla draws from the friendships she has made with the many women God has brought across her path.  Her chief goal is to glorify God, pointing her readers and audiences to Christ as she looks specifically at many of the reasons we are tempted to take the reins of our lives.

can’t wait to read it! I was wondering one thing however…was it hard to write this book knowing that so many people would also have a hand in it? I mean being a bit of a control freak myself it would be hard. LOL

    • The Control Switch says:

I know what you mean, Colleen. Actually, not only did God give me much peace through this process–opened all the doors, etc.–but my editor from Harvest House was a pleasure to work with. It was a great experience!
